Aeronautical and Automotive Engineering

Postgraduate taught

Vaibhav has recently completed his MSc in Automotive Engineering at Loughborough, a route he took in order to build on his skills within the automotive industry. Here, he explains how valuable his time at Loughborough has been, and how how it's changed his approach to everyday life.

"I was working in an automotive industry back in India, and I always wanted to pursue proper academic education in automotive engineering. Loughborough University has a well-established course in automotive engineering developed in collaboration with Ford and Jaguar Land Rover. Therefore, Loughborough was an easy choice for me.

The staff have in-depth knowledge of their subject and are very supportive. Study material in the library and online literature made available by the library services is also extensive and helps to deepen your understanding. The lab facilities are like those that we get to see in industry. The way of teaching, assessments, and use of facilities helps to make students research-oriented and gets them ready for a professional career as well. It is the perfectly-designed course for automotive engineering. Not only academically, but the social environment is also very great. It's called the Loughborough Family for a reason.

All staff, postgraduate research students and supporting staff were very much supportive throughout the year. I have always got prompt response to any queries from the faculties. Most importantly, academic and living support that we got from everyone at Loughborough during the Covid-19 pandemic situation was simply amazing, and it has shown the true character of the university and all the staff working here.

I am working in the automotive industry in India as a powertrain design engineer. I am going to apply the things that I learnt at Loughborough in design and development of systems. I'm working on 'Mechanical behavioural analysis of solid-state battery'. With the increased number of on-road electric vehicles, it is important to have safer batteries. Solid-state battery (SSB) provides the safest alternative as of now, but knowledge in the field is limited. So, I am working on developing the understanding of mechanical behaviour of SSB.

Loughborough has inspired me to approach each and every situation in a systematic way. It never lets you down in your career or in your personal life.

My time at Loughborough has made me believe that I can achieve whatever I dream of."
