Tell us a bit more about your educational background before you joined Loughborough.

I received my BA in Psychology, Economics, and Sociology with English and Additional English from Mount Carmel College in Bengaluru, India. I really liked the combination of these three subjects because it provided a holistic understanding of society, psychology of people and society, and how economics can become a bridge between sociology and psychology to develop and provide earning opportunities to individuals in society. I also liked relating my understanding and learning of psychology to understanding economic processes and people's mindsets.

Why did you choose to study MSc International Business?

I became interested in business and economics in the final year of my undergraduate studies, notably with marketing, game theory, enterprise creation and entrepreneurship modules. During Covid-19, my interest was piqued by the fact that my mother had begun her own restaurant business; seeing her become independent and her own employer had a lasting impression on me. MSc International Business stood out because I learned how businesses are run, how cross-cultural management occurs in large corporations, and how to view business practices through a global lens, and all the modules aligned with what I wanted to investigate in a global business setting.

Why did you choose to study at Loughborough?

During my search for a university with a comprehensive range of student facilities, I conducted extensive research on the campus and amenities offered by the University. Additionally, the University's high rankings across all subjects in the league tables, as well as their prompt and helpful responses to my enquiries, greatly influenced my decision. The ongoing support provided by the University until my arrival further solidified my choice. I am extremely satisfied with my decision to select Loughborough as my academic institution.

What were you doing before starting the programme?

Before starting my course, I was working for a few months at my mother’s restaurant as the assistant manager.

What did you love the most about your degree?

I greatly appreciate the diverse and multinational composition of my academic programme's cohort. Within this cohort, I encountered individuals hailing from various countries and possessing diverse backgrounds, including recent graduates, professionals, and individuals from business-oriented families. Engaging in discussions with these peers proved to be intellectually stimulating and enriching. Additionally, engaging in a limited number of in-class activities and conversations with the lecturers facilitated the expansion of my intellectual horizons and enhanced my understanding of the modules.

Tell us about a favourite project/module on your programme.

My fondest project was for the ‘Innovation and Entrepreneurship’ module, in which we had to provide innovative solutions to an existing company in a new country. It was a lot of fun and it was also a group project, so I relished it a great deal. My favourite module was ‘International Business Environment’, which was in my second semester, and ‘Business Negotiations’, which was in my third semester, because I learned a great deal about many concepts, theories and examples of how businesses are actually practiced in the real world, and I adored the two professors who taught us that module; they went the extra mile to ensure we had fun while learning and made it utterly engaging.

What kind of support did you receive from the University?

There is a great deal of support available for everyone; personally, the Careers Network was very helpful in tailoring my CV to UK standards, and there were many networking events organised by the Business School on a regular basis which provided me with information about many potential companies and other fields such as consulting, auditing and supply chain. Other than these, I have received support from the University whenever I needed it; I simply had to send an email to the University and they directed me to the right people.

How has your time at Loughborough developed your employability?

Engaging in various positions such as Student Ambassador of the University, course representative and #ME facilitator has significantly contributed to the enhancement of my soft skills including communication, public speaking, presenting, problem-solving and people management. These proficiencies are undoubtedly indispensable for any prospective career path.

What new skills/perspectives did you develop on the programme?

Understanding diversity and being able to respect differences in the opinions and thought processes of people from such diverse backgrounds will be a skill that I will carry with me for the rest of my life, in addition to research and presentation skills.

What are your career aspirations following your MSc?

I'm looking forward to marketing positions in large organisations; I'd love to contribute my diversified experiences as an international student to the marketing strategies of companies in order to add value for whoever is using the company's product/services.
