This programme explores the link between national and global security and the role of peace-building in developing multi-layered communities and nations.

Programme information

Our students will benefit from specialised, systematic and in-depth study focused on the relationship between diplomacy and international security and peace-building. They will utilise appropriate theories, concepts and methods associated with this work, while exploring the relationships between development and peace-building, civil-military relation, cyber security, global identity and security.

Core study areas include: Diplomacy: policy, practice and procedures; emergency simulations; peace-building; international security; an individual project (which can be a dissertation or business plan or placement project).

Optional study areas (choose two modules only): economic global governance; the politics and practice of the European Union; economic diplomacy; diplomatic discourse; cultural projection and perception.

Subject enhancement areas (choose one module only): design thinking; media and creative industries: context and practices; media and creative industries: critical perspectives; introduction to mobile internet and media clouds; leadership models and practices; principles of entrepreneurship and innovation; management skills.

Assessment

Modules are assessed by a combination of essays, group exercises, presentations and time constrained assignments. Subject to your choices, there may also be exams.

Entry Qualification

Minimum of a lower second class honours degree from a UK university or equivalent overseas qualification recognised by Loughborough University.

English Language requirements: IELTS 6.5 overall, with a minimum of 6.0 in each subtest (Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking) or equivalent.

The programme will equip you with the skills to pursue careers as trained specialists in diplomacy with particular reference to international security and
peace-building.
