You will gain a formal business qualification and a practical skill set based on Internet technologies. This programme aims to develop the business minded technologists of the future, who wish to design tomorrow’s Internet architectures, systems, and business models.

Programme information

This programme will provide you with knowledge and expertise in Internet systems and technologies with basic and advanced levels of business aspects for not only providing the usual Internet service businesses, but also for generating new Internet business opportunities. Technological expertise and the business angle provided in this programme will give you the necessary qualification to further your career in either technology development fields or technology management with possible new business and entrepreneurship development opportunities.

The programme will allow for creation of business minded technologists as well as technology minded business people for the design of Future Internet architectures, systems, and business models.

Core study areas to choose from: internet and communication networks; internet of things and applications; an individual project (which can be a dissertation or business plan or placement project); collaborative project.

Optional study areas include: innovation management; entrepreneurship; intellectual property; strategy and planning; understanding business failure; fundamentals of multimedia signals and processing; media processing and coding; advanced 3D user environments; content and network security; introduction to programming and matlab; mobile broadband and wireless networks; media applications; design and quality of experience; funding.

Assessment

Modules are assessed primarily by exams and may also include a combination of essays, group exercises, presentations and time constrained assignments.

Entry qualification

Minimum of a lower second class honours degree in electronics, computing, physics, mathematica or a related degree preferably with industrial experience from a UK university, or an equivalent overseas qualification recognised by Loughborough University.

English Language requirements: IELTS 6.5 overall, with a minimum of 6.0 in each subtest (Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking) or equivalent.

Careers and further study

Graduates are expected to develop their own start-ups, join new SMEs or work at established Internet technology and telecommunication companies.
