Funding for PhD study

A research degree is a long term commitment. In order to focus on your studies, it is important to ensure your funding is in place for the three or four years of your degree. You may fund yourself or obtain funding to support your studies.

Alumni Bursaries for all Loughborough Graduates

Bursary of 20% of tuition fees for self-funding postgraduate research students who are not in receipt of any other University award, and who obtained their previous degree from Loughborough University.

Studentships

A range of competitive studentships, are available for students wishing to undertake a PhD. Eligibility criteria applies.

UK/EU tuition fees plus a stipend of approximately £14,296 per annum (2016/17 value)

Research Council Funding

Funding is available in many schools and departments for doctoral study funded through the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council.

20% tuition fee scholarship for PhD study to high calibre students who achieved a first-class undergraduate degree (or international equivalent).

Loughborough Sports Scholarships

To support the sporting and academic development of talented student athletes. The level of support varies by sport and performance level. Applicants need to be competing to at least junior international level.

Loughborough University Arts Tuition and Scholarship

Students who prove themselves to be exceptionally talented and passionate about their chosen instrument, will receive £500 to spend on improving their skills even more and they will perform in the annual Music Scholarship Concert.
Any musical talent will be considered, and passion and commitment are weighted as heavily as musical ability.

The Colt Foundation

The primary interest of the Colt Foundation is to promote and encourage research into social, medical and environmental problems created by commerce and industry. The Colt Foundation is interested in supporting research into the health, safety and comfort of people at work. Payments include stipend, UK/EU fees and overseas candidates applying would be expected to meet the difference in UK/EU and International rates. A sum to cover research expenses is also be awarded.

Entente Cordiale

The Entente Cordiale Scholarship Scheme is a prestigious bi-lateral awards scheme that funds British postgraduate students who want to study in France and French students who want to study in the UK. Funded for the most part by the private sector in both countries the scheme provides funding for around 20 French and British students each year.

Welfare Support bursaries available to the children, spouses, widows or widowers of chemists, grocers and commercial travellers. Value: Up to £5,000.

The Reid Trust supports women educated in Britain who have appropriate academic qualifications and who wish to undertake further training or research in the United Kingdom, each year the Reid Trust makes six to ten awards of up to £1000 each.

Postgrad Solutions Ltd is offering 15 postgraduate bursaries each to the value of £500. If you are starting a postgraduate course in the academic year 2017-18 you are eligible to apply for this bursary. These are open to students from anywhere in the world. Payment of the award will be made direct to your institution, and will be discounted from your fees as appropriate.
