Computer labs freeze 2024/25 academic year

There will not be the normal software request process for computer labs this year as it has been agreed by the University that all software, hardware, and operating systems in computer labs across both campuses will remain unchanged for the 2024/25 academic year.

This will allow IT Services to be able to deliver key projects including the mandatory Windows 11 upgrade, Digilabs and vital security work in support of research.

What does this mean for me?

This means that unless there is a compelling security or compliance (i.e. licence terms) requirement no software or hardware will be upgraded, changed and no new software or hardware will be deployed until the summer of 2025.

A full upgrade of operating systems and software was carried out during the summer of 2023 with significant investment in hardware delivering c.1800 new computers and screens.
