Researchers on energy systems are invited to attend free training workshop in India
Loughborough University is inviting researchers to attend a two-week training workshop in India on the development of energy self-sufficient communities.
The training aims to boost postdoctoral and early career researchers’ critical understanding of off-grid communities. In India, there are more than 400 million people with limited access or no access at all to electricity. Current forecasts predict that this number will remain unchanged until 2030.
Run by the Newton-Bhabha India-UK Advanced Training School (IUATS), the training entitled Optimal design and control of smart community: new ideas for off-grid communities will cover a multitude of topics from energy planning through to ICT requirements.
It will be held from 7-17 November 2016 at the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar, Gujarat, India.
The closing date for applications is Friday 15 July.
There is no fee and all travel and accommodation expenses will be covered by the Newton-Bhabha IUATS programme.
The training schedule includes a mix of lectures and hands-on practical training (covering more than 27 classroom hours), field trips, research collaborations and funding opportunities, and case studies in advanced research techniques.
“This training workshop is an ideal opportunity to progress your professional development and to contribute to the sharing of knowledge and best practice between the UK and India,” he said.
“With limited or unreliable access to electricity a problem worldwide, new ideas are needed for the sustainable development of off-grid communities. Only then can these communities develop their economies and improve their quality of life, but to get there we need multi-disciplinary researchers’ help.”
