Gül joined Loughborough University in December 2015 as a Senior Lecturer after having spent 20 years in industry, BHR Group- an independent R&D and consultancy company. She held several positions at BHR Group prior to becoming a Senior Technical Consultant. During her time at BHR Group, Gul set up, worked on and managed several R&D and consultancy projects, including large, multi-partner projects, such as the Fluid Mixing Processes (FMP) Consortium (40+ industrial member companies, an annual budget of over £600K), Dispersion of Micro and Nanoparticles in Liquids (DOMINO) consortium (7 industrial members, annual budget of £120K), PROFORM (EC project nb. 505654; 3.5 M euros budget): Transforming nano-particles into consumer care products through advanced product and process formulation; AddNano (EC Contract nb 229284; 12 M euros budget): Scale up and formulation of new lubricants  with improved tribological properties. She has extensively lectured in the field of mixing and dispersion processes, during the annually held Improved Mixing Processes (1996 onwards) and Dispersion of Nanomaterials in Liquids (2008 onwards) courses or courses held at clients’ site.

Prior to BHR Group she worked as a senior research fellow at Birmingham (1993-95) and Cambridge (1992) Universities. She holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Birmingham University (1991) and a Master’s degree (Diplôme d'Études Approfondies) from Université de Technologie de Compiègne- Bioconversions and biotechnology (1987). Her first degree is on Food Process Engineering from Hacettepe University and École Nationale Supérieure des Industries Agricôles et Alimentaires (1986).
