There is a lot of diversity at Loughborough which allows you to study, work together with and learn from a wide range of people from different backgrounds and interests all on one campus. Both on and outside your course, allowing you to get involved with multiple societies or groups, without feeling out of place.
Additionally, in my final year I joined a programme called ‘Hashtag Me’ which involved weekly meetings with a group of like-minded students that experienced different pressures that university life and study can have on you. It was a very positive experience and allowed you to share experiences, different mechanisms in reducing stress and anxieties and increase your positive wellbeing.
Automotive Engineering can be a challenging subject to study with a high level of technical knowledge to understand and apply to different problems. At the same time, it can also be greatly rewarding, and you can apply the knowledge you have learnt throughout the course in multiple job opportunities. When it gets challenging, stick with it, as at Loughborough there is a range of opportunities for support and help when difficulties arise, both academically and personally.
I could not recommend enough applying for an industrial placement year as part of your course or applying for summer placements. The experience you gain from a company while still in your studies is both exciting and allows you to experience a range of opportunities to progress your engineering knowledge, and acquire new skills within today’s industry. The feedback I received and experiences I had on mine have been very encouraging and have inspired me to ideally secure a similar position in the industry once graduated.
