Compulsory modules
Advanced Sport Biomechanics
The aim of this module is for the student to develop an understanding of theoretical and experimental approaches to biomechanical analyses underpinned by the relationships between forces, motion, and the human musculoskeletal system during dynamic activities in sport.
Project Engineering - Total Product Design
The aim of the module is to provide a realistic and substantial team project experience in engineering design.
Innovation and Technology
This module aims to equip students with an in depth knowledge of innovation and entrepreneurship as they apply to technology driven industries. It will analyse how technology driven businesses create, select and implement new products and services through effective innovation.
Project Management
The aim of this module is for students to explore the approaches, skills and techniques needed to effectively manage projects. Students will also explore the role of mentors in enabling less experienced students to manage their design projects.
Emerging Technologies for Sport, Health and Wellbeing
The aim of this module is for students to develop a multidisciplinary knowledge and understanding of recent emerging technologies that can aid with improving health and wellbeing. This is inclusive of clinical devices to active lifestyle aids, and the module will cover topics including how they are developed, how they can be applied, and how to utilise them in research and practice.
Sustainable Product Design
This module aims to provide an understanding of the tools and techniques available to facilitate sustainable product design and provide knowledge of the product design processes that can reduce environmental impacts and promote sustainable practices.
Optional modules
Polymer Engineering - Properties and Design
The aim of the module is for the student to develop Masters' level skills (in principle and in practice) of engineering science applied to the design of products based on the processing and properties of polymers and polymer composites.
Organisation Structure & Strategy
The aim of the module is for students to gain an understanding of the nature of engineering organisations, their design and strategy within a global context.
Advanced Manufacturing Processes and Technology 1
The aim of the module is for students to gain an understanding of the concepts, design, implementation and industrial applications of: advanced manufacturing processes and technology, including industrial automation and laser processing.
Metrology
The aims of this module are to introduce and examine the principles of Metrology (measurement science) and inspection in the specification, design and development of products or systems. It considers advanced methods available for the measurement of dimensional and geometric features, and inspection of surface characteristics, and illustrates the translation of metrological themes into other engineering, science and technological areas.
Additive Manufacturing and Reverse Engineering
The module will introduce and develop the concepts of Reverse Engineering (RE) and further investigate the concept of Additive Manufacturing (AM), emphasising the complexities of such manufacturing methods.
