The aims of this module are to:

  • Support the development of core digital competencies for the creative production of visual outputs.
  • Introduce core industry standard digital production skills.

Art and Design Research Writing

The aims of this module are to introduce students to methods of individually and collaboratively undertaking practical and theoretical art and design research.

Fashion Design Principles

The aim of this module is for the student to:

  • Develop a considered approach to investigating design ideas for fashion through the exploration and evaluation of a specific theme and subject.
  • Apply industry-standard approaches to record research insights in a visual form and develop processes for illustrating concepts in response to a brief.
  • Work both independently and collaboratively to gain the confidence to interpret, communicate and present conceptual approaches to fashion design.

Garment Construction

The aims of this module are to:

  • Understand the technical processes to create garments suitable for a specific context, utilising professional industrial equipment and techniques.
  • Develop knowledge of handling materials and garment manufacturing processes to realise a design idea from 2D to 3D.
  • Experiment with techniques, materials and processes to create design ideas conscious of their potential environmental, ethical and social impacts.

Writing for Practice

The aims of this module are to:

  • Provide students with the opportunity to develop knowledge and understanding of how writing is used to frame art and design practices across diverse applications.
  • Develop skills in academic writing and argumentation.
  • Deepen understanding of the relationship between studio activity and scholarship.

3D Manipulation

The aims of this module are to:

  • Continue developing skills, knowledge and understanding of the fundamental creative process in fashion design.
  • Understand the form of the human body, fundamentals of ergonomic design and aspects that influence clothing usability.
  • Manipulate fabrics and materials in three-dimensional form considering silhouette and function.
  • Assimilate materials, techniques and concepts towards the construction of a garment prototype.

Fashion Futures

The aims of this module are to:

  • Develop progressive, experimental and innovative approaches to design which explores the broader context within this field.
  • Implement creative strategies and examine areas for progression in the social, environmental and technical development of future fashion.
  • Gather and present key information and research insight for trends, colour, materials, sustainability and ethical practices.

Applied Storytelling for Sustainability

The aim of this module is for students to

  • Appreciate the narrative arc as a device for the planning and development of compelling stories.
  • Introduce a range of participatory Storytelling techniques.
  • Practice the planning, filming and editing of video, using post-production and animation techniques as appropriate.
