Living in Loughborough
The town provides everything you could need as a student and much more. With a great choice in restaurants, entertainment and shopping, Loughborough has lots to offer.
Love to shop? The town has all shopping needs covered, with independently owned boutiques mingled in with national chains such as Next, Topshop and Boots all within walking distance from the campus. Plus, if you fancy a trip then there are a number of larger shopping centres only a short drive or train journey away. Lucky you! Loughborough also has a wide choice of shops to suit all budgets, including Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Marks and Spencer Food, Iceland and Morrisons. Local food stockists and speciality shops can also be found catering for those who wish to purchase health foods, organic produce, Asian groceries and other international cuisine.
If you enjoy eating out with your friends and family, you'll be pleased to learn that Loughborough and the surrounding area boasts a wide variety of cuisine. Indian, Chinese, Australian, Mexican, Thai, Italian, English and Malaysian restaurants can be found alongside independently owned gastro pubs, cafés, delis, national chain coffee shops, fast food outlets and restaurants.
Consider yourself a movie buff? Love to attend gigs and listen to live music? Or just like to spend time with your friends? Whatever your passion, you can be sure that Loughborough has what you need to unwind. There are a range of clubs, bars and pubs in the town centre along with the Town Hall which offers a great programme of shows, including theatre productions, musicals and comedy evenings. The Odeon cinema and a new Cineworld, both with 3D screens, offer all the latest blockbusters with discounts for students. Loughborough Students’ Union is the on-campus social and entertainment hub. Its numerous societies and sports clubs, plus nightly entertainment, will ensure that your free time will be anything but dull.
We are proud of our hard-earned reputation for sport at Loughborough, but our constant focus is on ensuring every student has the opportunity to get involved, regardless of experience or ability. Get fit, have fun, play sport and develop your skills. Needless to say, there’s a reason why we were named University of the Year for Sport for the second time running by The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2017.
The superb 440 acre single-site campus offers great facilities for every aspect of student life. Plenty of open spaces, gardens and sports areas are intermixed with academic buildings and student accommodation. We have a wide variety of shops, cafés, restaurants and bars across the campus, with food from takeaway snacks to high-class restaurants. There are lots of places to sit outdoors and study, talk with friends, or just relax.
Try something new
If you’re keen to try something new, then you’re in luck. At Loughborough University, we have a fantastic selection of clubs and societies, which provide entertaining and fun activities for you and your fellow students to take part in, plus Rag and Action give you the opportunity to do something fun. There are so many great tourist attractions nearby, such as the Peak District, Sherwood Forest, Alton Towers and the National Space Centre. Plus, you also have the opportunity to go climbing, hiking, trampolining, have a game of laser quest or try a live escape game. Hopefully this has given you a snapshot of what Loughborough has to offer outside of the university.
