My heart was set on studying at Loughborough University when I saw a post on the Facebook talking about the support offered for student mental health and wellbeing. That kind of initiative really resonated with me. Having worked in the psychology and mental health space, I wanted to be part of a university that puts student wellbeing at the heart of their education.
“Prior to starting at Loughborough University, I had already set up a couple of businesses in Kenya. I was keen to come to study in the UK and gain a better understanding of the psychology of business and how to expand into the UK market. I have a background in psychology and the MSc Business Psychology offered an ideal combination for developing my areas of expertise.
“Loughborough University has a very diverse student population and studying here has given me two wonderful lifelong friends. We met as study buddies, but our friendship goes beyond classes. Despite being in three different time zones, we are still able to meet up virtually and have built both personal and professional relationships.
“In partnership with one of my fellow students at Loughborough Business School, I’ve been able to develop a consulting business alongside my studies. Loughborough offers fantastic support for entrepreneurs, and we were fortunate enough to be part of the University’s Enterprise Network Incubator – LUInc.. The incubator provides start-up businesses with office space to operate and a vibrant community of founders, alumni and mentors to collaborate with.
“I’ve really enjoyed my time studying here. The Business Psychology MSc uses a case study-driven approach which I found helpful for contextualising and understanding real-world challenges, such as promoting diversity and gender balance in the workplace.
“Something I’ve carried over from my studies to apply in my business is the importance of engaging all stakeholders in strategy development and change management. It’s essential to give people a voice in the process and create a truly collaborative effort.”
