Students and Graduates: Whilst you’re studying and working remotely from Loughborough during this testing time, it’s business as usual for Loughborough Enterprise Network (LEN). You can access our Enterprise and Business Support remotely - whatever your needs, LEN and the wider Careers Network are here for you.

Loughborough University Support

For 1-2-1 Enterprise and Business Support (with Advisor)

Our 1-2-1 support and advice will still be available to you via phone call, video call, Facebook chat and / or email over coming months.

To request an appointment, please send us an email at: LEN@lboro.ac.uk

We will then assign you with the relevant entrepreneurial advisor, who will contact you to provide support.

 

The Start-Up Fund – up to £5000 for developed ideas and support to cover one-off, business crucial development and equipment costs that would propel your business to the next level.

This is open to students at both Loughborough and Loughborough University London, plus graduates within 2 years of graduation.

As a first step, you should read through all information provided as well as the Start-Up Fund Briefing slides that are now available on the page.

Submit the Expression of Interest form and share this with the relevant Advisor when you are ready. Details of who to share this with can be found on the form.

*Please note: our summer round is on hold for the timebeing (in light of COVID-19). However, you will still be able to access support from our advisors to prepare and strengthen your applications ahead of any future rounds opening. 

 

Start-Up Visa

If you are interested in applying for the Start-Up Visa, please review the information provided on our website and submit the Expression of Interest Form accordingly to Startupvisa@lboro.ac.uk.          

These will be reviewed as per our two rounds for this from June onwards. Rest assured that we will receive anything you send to us, but you may not hear from us regarding next steps until closer to the summer.

 

The Studio

If you’d like to know more about our Graduate accelerator programme for you and your business, The Studio, and how you can apply for this in our next round (as a finalist or current graduate), you can find more information in the link provided above. The next round will open in June / July 2020 with a view to our next cohort beginning on the programme in September / October 2020.

Wider Careers Network Support

If you need wider Careers Network support, the department's website contains advice on everything you need to know about the recruitment process, from not knowing what career you want, to how to accept a job offer.

The employer engagement team will continue to engage and communicate with our employer partners (large and small, domestic and international, new and old) to make sure that you’re kept informed regarding their employment and work experience opportunities. Prince's Trust/ NatWest Enterprise Relief Fund

The Enterprise Relief Fund will offer grants to 18 to 30-year olds across the UK who are self-employed and/or running their own business. In conjunction with cash grants, the initiative will offer one-to-one support and guidance to anyone who needs it and who may be worried about their future. Find out more here.

Pickle Illustrations Postcards of Positivity

Evolve cohort business Pickle Illustrations have created hand drawn postcards for their online shop to help the public spread positive messages to friends and family during this period of social distancing. You can choose the message inside, which will be handwritten and sent off by them, with 10% of profits going to the NHS. Find out more and purchase a postcard here.

 

ChargedUp to CleanedUp

Loughborough University Alumni Charlie Baron and Forrest Skerman-Stevenson, Co-Founders of ChargedUp, have created CleanedUp, an adaptation of the company’s current phone charging stations, to dispense hand sanitiser in public places. In around 1 week, they team have taken the initial concept for the dispenser to manufacture and the first units have been installed outside key areas such as supermarkets. Find out more here.

 

House Hack - The Hackathon from Home

House Hack is a virtual Hackathon that brings people together to innovate on problems real business owners are facing in their enterprising journey. It's an opportunity to learn problem solving, innovation and team-working skills while contributing a tangible outcome that will help a business owner in a meaningful way.

Alcuris in Times Square

The logo of Loughborough University alumnus Alex Nash's company 'Alcuris' can currently be seen from Times Square, New York City. Alcuris' product, Memohub, will support older and vulnerable people, their families, and Social Care during the Covid19 crisis. Read more here.

Astinno Rewarded Huge Grant

Astinno, founded by Loughborough alumnus Peter Astbury, has received a grant of £360,000 from Innovate UK to fund testing and development of their product, Grace. Grace is a wearable tech for women experiencing hot flushes. Peter received our Start-Up Funding back in 2017, so it's great to see the business is attracting interest and winning awards. Congratulations, Peter!
