Accessing Mental Health and Wellbeing Support as a New Student

Below are some frequently asked questions about the support available to new students at Loughborough.

Support with your studies

Now that I’m coming to Loughborough, how can I access support?

If you have support needs and haven’t already completed the Disability and Health Portal please do so as soon as possible so we can make arrangements for your support when you arrive Disability and Health Portal. If you have any queries about support or would like to arrange an appointment please contact studentwellbeing@lboro.ac.uk or complete the Wellbeing Referral form.

Will my reasonable adjustments transfer to University?

Any reasonable adjustments you have had at school or college will not automatically transfer to University. If you will need reasonable adjustments in place please complete the Disability and Health portal Disability and Health Portal as soon as possible so that we can take steps to arrange your adjustments for you.

What kinds of support are available for students?

Support is available across many areas including groups and workshops, drop-ins, 1-1 appointments with experienced professionals, specialist study support and specialist mentoring.

Can I get help with my mental health?

Yes, as well as support for physical disabilities and long-term health conditions we offer a range of support for students with their wellbeing and mental health needs as well as specialist support for neurodiverse students.

Funding Support

Do I need to apply for funding in order to access specialist support?

If you are a UK funded student with a neurodiversity (such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD and Autism), physical or hidden disability, long-term health or mental health condition you can apply for funding for specialist support such as mentoring and study support. This support is funded by the Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) and we recommend that you apply as soon as possible. You can find more information about DSA on our webpages or on the UK Government's DSA page.

International students are not eligible for DSA but should still contact us in order to arrange support.

Wellbeing Support

What can I do to look after my wellbeing as a student?

Loughborough offers many initiatives to help you stay well, including wellbeing workshops, and drop-in sessions. One popular option is MyLifestyle, a free programme of inclusive and non-competitive physical activities designed to support your physical and mental wellbeing.

What if I need help in an urgent situation?

If you're in urgent need of support there are services in place to help you.

Please complete the incident reporting tool in order to request support from dedicated Advisers from the University.
