Taught Students Taking a Leave of Absence (LOA)
A leave of absence is a temporary suspension of studies most commonly taken until the next academic year.
If you take (or are placed on) a leave of absence you can expect the University will have to withdraw sponsorship of your visa which can then lead to UKVI shortening (known as ‘cancelling’) your remaining visa to at least 60 days remaining. Unless you are entitled to stay in the UK on any other basis you should leave the UK prior to visa expiry. Before returning you will need to request a new CAS online to apply for any new Student visa permission outside the UK in order to resume remaining studies. You should not try to travel back to the UK using visa permission that has been or may be cancelled. For further information on visa cancellation, see the webpage linked below.
