As part of the National Year of Reading, we are offering library users to expand their reading horizons and reconnect with the joy of discovery.
Reading has the power not only to inform but to transport. Through books, we can cross borders, experience different cultures, and encounter voices that challenge and enrich our understanding of the world. At a university shaped by diverse perspectives, reading globally feels especially meaningful.
Read Around the World Display: 1st – 8th May
From 1st to 8th May, the Pilkington Library invites you to explore our Read Around the World Display.
This curated collection features books from different countries and cultures, offering:
- Stories set across continents
- Authors from a wide range of cultural backgrounds
- Fiction and non-fiction that broaden global perspectives
- Voices you may not have encountered in your usual reading
Whether you’re drawn to contemporary international fiction, translated works, memoir, or cultural histories, this display is designed to help you discover something new. It’s an opportunity to step beyond familiar genres or authors and experience storytelling through a different lens.
Why Global Reading Matters
One of the central themes of the National Year of Reading is connection, to ideas, to communities, and to each other. Reading internationally strengthens empathy and cultural awareness. It encourages curiosity about the wider world and reminds us that stories are both universal and beautifully unique.
This May, let’s celebrate the Year of Reading by turning the page and travelling the world, one book at a time.
