Becoming Self-Employed or Starting Up a Business

Have you got an idea for a business?

Thinking about becoming self-employed?

From inspired idea to the next big business start-up, our Loughborough Enterprise Network (LEN) team are here to support students and graduates on their business journeys.

Take a look at the multiple places you can go for different levels of support below.

LSU Enterprise

Inspiring you to get started with your idea!

Our LSU Enterprise Colleagues are here to inspire students to think big and follow their dreams.

Throughout the year, they hold a range of enterprising competitions and big events to set you on the path to success as you get started.

Based in the LSU Enterprise Hub, upstairs in Loughborough Students' Union, you can pop and say hello (no appointment necessary) and access support from them on Ideation and our Business Model Canvas, as well as applying for the Santander Initiate Fund to test and validate your idea!

For more information, visit LSU Enterprise.

During your Degree

Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Education during your degree!

As well as our extra-curricular activities, Loughborough Enterprise Network (LEN) also enables students access to enterprise education through a range of optional and targeted modules, e.g. Entrepreneurship and Innovation and Small Business Issues.

Our Placement Year in Enterprise also enables students with a business idea to turn it into a reality with the help and support of the wider University and LEN team.

As an alternative to the traditional placement year or study abroad options, you can take part in the Year in Enterprise and try running your own business between the second and third year of your degree. Training and mentoring are providing throughout, too!

The Start-Up Labs

Develop the skills and knowledge you need to run your business!

Our Student Enterprise Advisers are on your side to provide the space, support and expertise you need to officially kickstart your business.

Through our two programmes, Initiate and Evolve, you can receive business-specific training and mentoring and take part in a range of workshops in our two co-working spaces, The Start-Up Lab (STEMLab building) and The Start-Up Lab East (Stewart Mason building).

You can also apply for our popular Start-Up Fund - providing students and graduates with up to £5000 to really take their businesses to the next level!

The Studio

Helping graduates to launch their businesses and watch them fly!

With specific mentoring and support, plus an office space in a vibrant incubator with plenty of peers to lean on, we aim to help you to maximise your business success after your degree.

We are based in the Holywell Building on the University's Science and Enterprise Park (LUSEP), located on the West Park side of campus.

Being based here enables our graduates to connect with a dynamic innovation community that is made up of over 75 businesses spanning tech start-ups and international organisations.
