The Supply Chain we look after is a global operation responsible for getting hundreds of millions of products from farms and factories to millions of customers every day. The demands on Tesco's Supply Chain have never been greater and we enable Tesco to keep the pace, constantly transforming ways of working. We work within Tesco as an internal consulting team delivering improvements across large parts of the business. Last year we delivered 10s of millions of pounds worth of efficiency savings and process improvements and we're set to do even more this year. A career with Tesco allows you to creatively solve problems, develop systems using mathematical modelling and algorithm design, and introduce better ways of working within the team and across the offices and suppliers. You’ll be working on what matters to give Tesco an efficient, sustainable business and you’ll be developing skills to lead the team and industry into the future.

Tesco Supply Chain Development

Student Opportunity

Supply Chain Internal Consultant / Data Scientist

What is the role?

We’re looking to hire keen problem-solvers with a sharp business instinct, an analytical mind, and clear, simple communication skills. As an Analyst in our team, there are lots of interesting problems to solve. You could be analysing which products need to be reduced in price to minimise waste each day, or how to automatically supply enough extra burgers and lettuces for barbecues over a hot and sunny weekend. You could be giving presentations the newest innovation in big data analytics or engaging with suppliers to drive benefits throughout the supply chain.

Based within our office team of change managers, analysts and data scientists, you’ll be working on projects that make significant, lasting changes to the UK’s biggest retailer. Our ventures and ideas are based in data-driven insight, collaboration with Tesco colleagues and in partnership with our suppliers. By measuring changes in the office, visiting stores or working with suppliers we see the business improvement and the big benefits to everyday life for customers, colleagues and producers.

A career with us allows you to creatively solve problems, develop systems using mathematical modelling and algorithm design, and introduce better ways of working within our team and across our offices and suppliers. You’ll be working on what matters to give us an efficient, sustainable business and you’ll be developing skills to lead your team and industry into the future.

Skills required

The ideal person we’re looking for is an exceptional graduate with a minimum A in A-level maths and a good numerical or operational degree. Successful applicants will be looking for an opportunity to hit the ground running. From day 1 you'll work in a project team delivering quantifiable benefits to Tesco (obviously with the help of a great support network). In return, you'll be given a great opportunity to get on and progress within a massive and expanding company.

You should be a keen problem-solver who can demonstrate:

  • Strong business acumen and the drive to make changes to the way we operate
  • Excellent analytical and numerical skills
  • The ability to simplify complex issues and implement practical solutions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Programming skills are a bonus but not required, the aptitude to learn technical skills quickly is enough as we can teach you it all on the job. Any work experience in retail or systems / analytics will help you better understand our field.

Why should you work with us?

There’s never a dull day working in our team, whether due to the interesting work or the more social side. We have regular department-wide socials and you can participate in our Community Outreach team or join one of the groups that play sport.

Alongside our competitive salary, you will receive a great benefits package including 25 days holiday, a pension scheme, 10% staff discount card on most purchases in Tesco and invitation to participate in an annual rewards scheme. We have a flexible working policy both around hours and working from home each week.
