The National School of Healthcare Science supports the implementation and delivery of healthcare science education and training programmes.

The aim of the educational programmes is to train staff that will be able to work at the highest level in healthcare, understanding and advising on the most recent advances in technology and innovations in patient care, and to have the flexibility and adaptability to work across patient pathways enabling efficient and high quality care.

The Scientist Training Programme is a three year training programme that includes work-based and academic learning. Whilst on the programme you will also complete a part-time master's degree at the university offering your chosen specialism. There are two routes of entry into the STP, the one that will be applicable to you as students is the direct entry - trainees will complete the full-time (except for any exemptions) three year programme and be employed at a local level by an NHS Trust in England on a fixed term training contract salaried at AfC band 6.

The number of positions available varies each year, this year we are planning to offer graduate jobs to 330-350 applicants across NHS Trusts in England. The aim of the STP is to attract, select and retain the very best people to clinical scientist posts.

The STP annual recruitment process opens around December/January for applications to commence the programme in the following September.
