Careers Guidance and Employability Manager
Susan manages the Careers Network team. Susan has had many years careers work experience, starting in 1983, and joined Loughborough University in 1996. Her previous experience has included careers work in schools and colleges, adult guidance, careers related research and charity management.
Employer Engagement Manager – Events
- Manager of the Employer Engagement Events Team;
- Responsible for all employer events on-campus including – Careers Fairs, Industry Themed Events, Employer Presentations, Drop-Ins, Mock Assessment Centres;
- Responsible for developing, maintaining and growing strategic corporate relationships related to student recruitment.
Placements Governance Manager
Enhancing placement processes, working closely with staff in academic Schools and ensuring effective governance and compliance to protect students. Manager for ‘The Place’ – an exciting and vibrant new placements and skills hub located on the ground floor in Stewart Mason (0.06).
Chris is responsible for co-ordinating the development of placement provision, placement IT systems, and best practice activity related to placements and other professional work experience activities. In addition, he acts as Secretary to the Placement Advisers Group forum and is a member of the University Placements and Work Based Leaning Steering Group.
Chris oversees support for undergraduate placements and other work-based experiences for students from AED, SSEHS and Science. As well as providing services for students, ‘The Place’ is a useful outpost for staff from Careers Network, linked Schools and other student services to enhance students’ engagement, skills and outcomes.
Chris joined the Careers Network team in August 2016 on secondment from his role as the Information Team Co-ordinator within Student Services. Prior to this he worked in Registry and IT Services at Nottingham Trent University.
Dr Sophie-Louise Hyde (on Maternity Leave) BA English, MA Creative Writing, PhD English and Creative Writing (Poetry)
Student Enterprise Manager and Enterprise Adviser (Loughborough)
Sophie is an experienced creative entrepreneur and is currently responsible for leading the University’s Student Enterprise team across both our Loughborough and London campuses. She has six years’ experience of running her own writing and publishing venture and uses this to regularly advise and support our students and graduates to develop the skills and knowledge needed to kickstart their ideas and turn their businesses into a reality.
As an adviser, Sophie leads on 1:1 appointments for our East Midlands based students and runs two programmes of workshops and training for them from our Start-Up Lab co-working space. She is also responsible for overseeing our Start-Up Fund and Enterprise Internships.
Birgit Lewis BA (Hons) Product Design, MA Design, Strategy and Innovation, Member of AGCAS
Skills and Employability Development Manager
Birgit is responsible for developing students' skills and employability through a range of university wide initiatives, optimising opportunities for Loughborough University students to gain experiences and skills and abilities to articulate these. Initiatives include mentoring, networking, work shadowing and employability programmes.
Birgit has a background in design, innovation and management and worked in Branding Consultancies as well as setting up and running her own ceramics business. She has worked in higher education for the last 15 years developing students' employability skills.
Nilesh Kavia BA (Hons) Business Management, NVQ 4 Advice and Guidance, ILM 5 Leadership and Management
Careers Consultant - International Students
Having joined the Careers Network team in October 2017, Nilesh is the Careers Consultant for the School of Business and Economics undergraduates and leads the careers and employability provision for international students.
Prior to working at Loughborough, Nilesh managed and led the Careers Information, Advice and Guidance provision for University of Leicester, leading on various projects of strategic importance including the management of staff development to provide quality one to one provision to support students in their career planning and to compete for graduate opportunities. Whilst working at Leicester Nilesh also managed the newly formed Student Service Centre and managed a team of careers professionals. Prior to working at Leicester, Nilesh worked for the National Careers Service supporting and developing people to achieve their career goals.

Careers Consultant and Marketing Manager
Gill supports finalists, postgraduate taught students, doctoral researchers and graduates from the following schools:

Gill joined Careers Network in 2002 with extensive experience of careers work with university students and graduates, young people in schools and adult career changers. Her work as a careers adviser since 1994 has involved posts at three different universities and a contribution to the Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services (AGCAS), which has developed her expertise in administration, information, training and writing. She currently oversees visual identity and marketing for Careers Network, manages the Careers Network website and is the Careers Consultant Team Leader for the above schools.
