Owen is a Visiting Doctoral Researcher in the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences at Loughborough University, working under the supervision of Dr Mark Burnley. He is currently a PhD candidate in the Department of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU), Taiwan, where he has completed his doctoral dissertation and its revisions.

His research interests focus on exercise physiology, particularly critical power, sports performance, and resistance exercise. His doctoral research investigates the application of the 3-min all-out test to resistance exercise (3MST), as well as the physiological responses to resistance exercise performed above and below critical load. During his research visit at Loughborough University, he aims to investigate the effects of an 8-week resistance training intervention on critical load in resistance exercise.

In addition to his research activities, Owen has university-level teaching experience, including lecturing in strength and conditioning training. He has also been involved in coaching and supporting national-level long-distance runners and HYROX athletes in Taiwan. He holds professional certifications from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), including CSCS, NSCA-CPT, and TSAC-F.
