Matthew graduated from Loughborough University with a BSc (Hons) in Sport and Exercise Science in 2019. He then became a qualified teacher, receiving his PGCE from the University of Warwick in 2020. Following on from teaching, Matthew returned to Loughborough University to complete his MSc in Exercise as Medicine and has remained at Loughborough to undertake his doctoral research. Matthew has a keen interest in nature and the environment, particularly in relation to how the environment can impact exercise performance and engagement and the underlying mechanisms that lead to these changes.

Research

Matthew’s research is funded by the ESRC and will investigate the underlying mechanisms behind whether and why natural and urban environments elicit differences in physical performance and engagement.
