Dr Jing Guan graduated with Distinction in Finance from Guizhou University, China, in 2014, before completing her PhD in Finance at the University of International Business and Economics, China, in 2019, graduating with First Class honours. During the third year of her doctoral studies, she spent a year at the University of Liverpool. Her doctoral research explored sports risk management interventions and their impact on individual outcomes. Prior to joining Loughborough University in 2025, Dr Jing Guan held the position of Senior Lecturer and Vice Dean in the School of Economics at Beijing Technology and Business University. In 2024, she undertook visiting research positions at both the University of Sassari, Italy, and Loughborough University.
Dr Jing Guan’s research lies in the application of data analytics techniques informed by economic theory to improve individual outcomes through various interventions. Her work contributes to a deeper understanding of the causal relationships between lifestyle behaviours, particularly physical activity, and health, across social-ecological, geographical, and economic contexts. Her research provides critical quantitative insights to address physical inactivity, reduce disparities in participation, inform the strategic planning of facilities and public spaces, and support the development of evidence-based health policies.

- The impact of health facilities on local authority development and individual outcomes using geographical analysis
- Identifying physical inactivity risk using machine learning approaches
