Timed to coincide with Playday 2025, the UK's national day for play, the website's relaunch celebrates the vital role of movement, play and active learning in early childhood.
Early Movers is a collaborative venture between Loughborough University, the National Centre for Sport and Exercise Medicine (NCSEM), and Loughborough University Nursery, backed by Loughborough University Enterprise Funding through the Higher Education Innovation Fund (HEIF). The initiative blends academic expertise with practitioner insight to help shape healthy habits and physical confidence in the early years.
The new collaboration with NEYASP, convened by Youth Sport Trust in March 2023, marks a bold step forward in tackling physical inactivity among young children—especially in the context of post-pandemic recovery. Together, the partners aim to equip parents, carers, and practitioners with evidence-based resources designed to inspire movement and playful exploration.
“The relaunch of the Early Movers website as the home of the National Early Years Active Start Partnership (NEYASP) marks a vital step forward in promoting the importance of physical development, physical activity and play in the early years” said Dr Janine Coates, NEYASP Vice-Chair. “The decline in children’s access to play and movement opportunities cannot be solved by individual organisations working in isolation. By uniting as a collective voice, we can better influence policy, drive change and advocate for quality physical development, physical activity and play opportunities for all children from birth up. Having Early Movers as a home for our partnership strengthens our ability to do this.”
