Matt joined the University in 2022 and was appointed Programme Lead (SSE) for Criminology, Sociology and Social Policy in February 2026.

Matt has previously served as a Visiting Professor at the City University of New York. He was the 2023 Winner of the hugely prestigious Vice Chancellor's Annual 'Unsung Hero' Award.

A Loughborough Elite Endurance Coach, Matt has team staffed for England in Athletics on more than 30 occasions, having guided three athletes to become world champions. A  2025 winner of an England Athletics Services to Athletics ‘lifetime award’, Matt has served as a Paula Radcliffe Marathon Academy Coach and ‘Run Through’ Coach.

Matt was a 2023 winner of the Innovation in Teaching Award. He has twice received honours in the 'Member of Staff Who Goes The Extra Mile' School Award category and has received no less than 8 teaching-related awards in his time here.
