Marie-Josée obtained her PhD in Psychology at the University of Nottingham in 2013 before working as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate at Loughborough University. She then accepted a position at De Montfort University as a Lecturer in Psychology in 2016 and returned to Loughborough University as a Senior Lecturer in 2026. 

Dr Bisson's research focuses on facilitating learning in the areas of languages and mathematics. She is interested in cognitive predictors of learning, the role of cross-linguistic similarities in the learning of new words and number names, as well as multilingualism. She uses a variety of methods to conduct research such as behavioural tasks, eye-tracking, electroencephalography and comparative judgment.
