Dr Amrit Kumar

  • Research Associate in Thermofluids and Optical Diagnostics

Dr Amrit Kumar is an experimental thermo-fluids researcher with interdisciplinary expertise spanning fluid – surface interactions, multiphase flows, heat transfer, icing and anti-/de-icing technologies, surface engineering, and advanced optical diagnostics. He has held postdoctoral research positions at the University of Nottingham (UK), Iowa State University (USA), UiT: The Arctic University of Norway, and now at Loughborough University (UK), where he is working on sustainable SCR after-treatment technologies for heavy-duty diesel engines in collaboration with Caterpillar Innovation and Research Centre.

Dr Kumar has made significant contributions to the development of icing wind tunnel facilities, high-speed waterjet erosion rigs, and advanced droplet/ice diagnostics. His research has direct industrial relevance, with collaborations involving Collins Aerospace, Meggitt Aerospace, Hygratech LLC, and Caterpillar, and has been recognised with Best Paper Awards at the Fluid Mechanics and Fluid Power Conference (FMFP 2021) and the AIAA AVIATION Forum 2024.
