ARAMP works with healthcare organisations, industry, the nuclear sector, universities and research facilities through collaborations of different scales and durations. Our work often crosses disciplinary boundaries, bringing radiation physics together with areas including materials science, artificial intelligence, robotics, environmental science and healthcare engineering.

We welcome new research ideas, technical and industrial challenges, and opportunities to develop collaborative projects. There are many ways we could work together, from focused technical projects to longer-term research programmes, so please get in touch

Collaborative research

We work with organisations and other research teams to develop joint projects and funding proposals, bringing together complementary expertise, facilities and data.

Collaborative research can range from large international research programmes to focused technical projects. Our work on microbeam radiotherapy, for example, includes experiments at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility in Grenoble and research with the ThomX facility near Paris, alongside collaborators at the universities of Ferrara, Milan-Bicocca and Warwick. On a smaller scale, we've recently worked with Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust to develop a custom DaTscan phantom for quality assurance testing of its SPECT cameras.

Knowledge Transfer Partnerships

Knowledge Transfer Partnerships help organisations access University expertise to develop new products, services or capabilities. A standard KTP supports a longer-term strategic project and usually places a graduate Associate within the organisation, while Accelerated Knowledge Transfer projects provide shorter, more targeted support to evaluate or develop an innovation.

ARAMP worked with Serac Imaging Systems Ltd. on an Accelerated Knowledge Transfer project. This incorporated functionality developed from our research into the Seracam product, enabling hybrid gamma-optical video imaging.

Consultancy and contract research

We can work with organisations on clearly defined technical questions through consultancy or contract research. This may involve experimental work using our specialist radiation laboratories and equipment, or analytical and advisory projects drawing on ARAMP’s expertise in modelling, data analysis and radiation science.

ARAMP has experience of both types of work, helping organisations access capabilities that may not be practical to maintain in-house. The most appropriate arrangement will depend on the question, facilities required and timescale. Access to our laboratories and equipment is subject to availability, safety requirements and the relevant University processes.

Our facilities

Sponsor a PhD

Organisations can sponsor a doctoral researcher to investigate a longer-term research question or technical challenge. We can work with you to shape a suitable project, identify appropriate supervision and consider how the research could support your organisation’s needs.

ARAMP currently hosts several PhD students on similar collaborative bases. For example, Lois Wright, is sponsored by the NDA for her research investigating gamma-backscatter imaging for non-destructive analysis.
