DAUQRS Workshop

Social Dinner

Social dinner with some of the workshop participants

Dr Jenny Spiga presented an invited talk at the Data Assimilation and Uncertainty Quantification in Radiation Shielding (DAUQRS) Workshop, in Bath.

The workshop was organised by the University of Bath and the Institute for Mathematical Innovation (IMI). The organisers, Veronica Chronholm, Matt Evans and Tristan Pryer, were supported by the Heilbronn Institute for Mathematical Research (HIMR) through a Focused Research Grant and the UKRI/EPSRC Additional Funding Programme for Mathematical Sciences.

Jenny presented work conducted by Tom Kimber during a final year project entitled “Multi-Objective Optimisation for Nuclear Microreactor Shielding Design with Geant4.” The presentation showcased our work on applying computational swarm optimisation approaches to the challenging problem of radiation shielding design.

The workshop brought together researchers from academia and industry, combining a selection of presentations with intensive idea-generation sessions and open discussions. This format provided a valuable opportunity to exchange perspectives, explore new research directions and identify connections between data assimilation, uncertainty quantification, optimisation and radiation shielding.

It was a highly stimulating and productive week, made even more enjoyable by a very supportive community of physicists and mathematicians, including a few from the established MathRad collaboration.

A big thank you to Veronica Chronholm, Matt Evans and Tristan Pryer for the invitation, organisation and support that made participation possible. We are very grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the workshop and to engage with cutting edge research and ideas.
