Sport, health and wellbeing

As a world-leading University for sport, researchers at Loughborough University have strong ties with policymakers working in this space. Moreover, the University’s research speaks to broader themes around health and wellbeing including crime reduction, gambling harm in children and minimum income standards.

The work of the Centre for Lifestyle Medicine and Behaviour aims to identify and evaluate innovative health behaviour interventions and policies to prevent and treat chronic diseases. This work – which has the ambition to enable people to live healthier, happier lives – directly feeds into the Governments desire to move from sickness to prevention.

The University’s Women in Sport Research and Innovation Hub – which was launched by Minster Stephanie Peacock MP – aims to tackle barriers to participation and opportunity faced by women and girls. The Hub works closely with athletes, coaches, policymakers, and industry leaders to shape the future of women’s sport through cutting-edge research and collaboration.

The University has three colleagues who sit on the DCMS College of Experts, who are a group of independent experts from academia and industry who provide the Department with independent advice on their policy work to ensure it meets robust scientific standards.
