It helps form groups of researchers who can collaborate by sharing ideas, opportunities and contacts, allowing multi-disciplinary approaches to issues policymakers are seeking evidence on.

Industrial Strategy

In June 2025, the Government published its Industrial Strategy after months of consultation. Following the launch of the Green Paper in November 2024, colleagues from across Loughborough University responded to the consultation across a number of different disciplines. The Policy Unit supported colleagues with their submissions, a summary of which can be found below. The Unit was also actively involved in follow-up with policymakers since the submissions, in particular with the Department for Business and Trade which led the consultation.

Living Well Inquiry

The Living Well Inquiry was an ambitious, cross-disciplinary, initiative which sought to influence government thinking in the run-up to and immediately after the General Election. The external engagement provided a strong platform for relationship building and showcasing Loughborough University research expertise to a wide audience. The Inquiry galvanised a considerable amount of interest internally and has provided a framework for much of the University’s policy-oriented R&I activity.
