Education, skills and innovation

Loughborough University research can help Government achieve its mission of creating a better educated and equipped workforce by contributing to the teaching and upskilling of young people, but also through research which identifies enablers and barriers to world class education.

Colleagues from the University’s Centre for Mathematical Cognition conduct research which aims to improve the teaching and learning of mathematics. This has resulted in a number of policy outputs, including research from the Centre on dyscalculia being at the forefront of the first debate on the condition in either Houses of Parliament.

The University has a strong civic footprint – a key priority area set out by the Government. Through the Loughborough Town Deal, the University has been involved in a number of initiatives which are aimed at improving the lives of local communities.

As well as this, the University is providing cutting-edge education to its students. DigiLabs is transforming education by offering a unique and innovative digital experience that ensures that graduates are future-fit for the world of work where digital skills, data analytics, virtual and augmented reality play a key part, and can reap the positive benefits of artificial intelligence and machine learning to support future technologies.
