Loughborough Lightning Wheelchair Basketball vs East London Phoenix

Come and enjoy a game of top flight wheelchair basketball. Students can attend for a discounted price of £3.50 if you pre-book.

Please note, students MUST show their Student ID upon arrival. Failure to do this will result in a being charged the full price.

Academic Language Support Service Workshops

ALSS will be running two workshops today. You can come along to just one or both. Registering for both the morning and the afternoon session is encouraged. Drinks and Easter treats will be served at approximately 12pm. If you are coming for the whole day, don’t forget to bring your lunch!

Morning session (writing): Paraphrasing, Summarising and Referencing

Summarising and paraphrasing are developing skills. This session will give you the opportunity to practise writing effective summaries and offer you techniques to paraphrase successfully. It will also look at correctly formatting in-text citations and how to synthesise source materials to help you make a stronger argument.

Afternoon session (speaking): Academic Discussion 1

This session will look at the difference between academic and other types of discussions. It will help you to develop the skills needed to use sources in your discussion. You will practise evaluating information, reporting back on ideas found in sources and expressing your opinion.

The My Lifestyle programme is a FREE and inclusive recreational sport and physical activity offer, that is open to and welcomes everybody of any ability. Come along for a free game of badminton, burn some calories and make new friends. Please note this session is self-guided.

With deadlines for written assignments fast approaching, the aim of this session is to help you recognise academic style features so that you can improve your writing. It will also look at how to identify and correct common errors both in your text and formatting references.

Afternoon session (speaking): Academic Discussion 2

The aim of this session is to help you understand and overcome anxieties regarding academic discussions. It will enable you build the confidence to participate in discussions and further practise expressing your opinion.

Chaplaincy event: Waiting for Easter- the journey to the cross

Come and reflect on the journey Jesus took from his arrival in Jerusalem, to his crucifixion a few days later. 

We will use prayer, art, music, silence, and storytelling to explore this important week in the Christian calendar and end with traditional English Easter refreshments, including Hot Cross Buns. All welcome.
