Ridzuan A-Rasid, who is pitching to win the National Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) competition

Loughborough Doctoral Researcher pitches for votes in national Three Minute Thesis Finals

On Friday 15 September, Ridzuan A-Rasid, a doctoral researcher from Loughborough University, makes history as the first finalist from an art and design background to pitch to win the National Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) competition.

Developed by the University of Queensland, Australia, the 3MT® challenges candidates to present their research topic to a non-specialist audience. Now a global competition, 3MT® is an excellent platform for public engagement.

Ridzuan, a researcher in the School of Design and Creative Arts sponsored by the Malaysia Ministry of Higher Education and Universiti Putra Malaysia, will present Goldfish vs Human – exploring the potential of motion graphics to create an interactive, inclusive learning playground for Generation Z.

The national finals will be lived streamed from midday on 15 September. A judging panel decides the overall winner and the People’s Choice award is decided by public vote once all six finalists have presented. To vote, please register on the Vitae website ahead of the event where you will receive a link to the live stream.

All members of the Loughborough University community are welcome to attend a special watch party in the Design School at midday on 15 September, with the option of joining online. For more details, please visit the events noticeboard.

An 80,000 word PhD thesis would take 9 hours to present. Ridzuan and his fellow 3MT® finalists have just three minutes and one slide. We wish them all the best of luck.
