The award recognises and honours the achievements of outstanding individuals from the international community whose scientific and applied work has significantly impacted the field of sport and performance psychology. The award committee concluded that Prof Fletcher’s “contributions are of exceptionally high professional quality” as evidenced by a distinguished record of publications and by his innovation in delivering services to performers, teams, and organisations.

Another aspect of the award is honouring those who foster the internationality of sport and performance psychology. Closer to home, he was also recently awarded the British Psychological Society’s Division of Sport and Exercise Psychology Distinguished Contribution Award. The award recognises members who have made a distinguished contribution to the field of sport and exercise psychology over a sustained period of time. The award committee highlighted the innovation and impact of his evidence-based sport psychology practice and its effectiveness, together with his level of contribution to the field.

He will receive his awards at the organisation’s respective annual conferences later this year.  As a part of his award, he will deliver keynote presentations at the events in Orlando, United States of America, and Edinburgh, Scotland.

Professor Fletcher reflected: “It is humbling to receive these awards for my work in sport psychology.  I’ve always endeavoured to conduct high-quality research that delivers meaningful impact in elite sport and other high-performance domains. To be recognised in this way from my national and international peers is proud moment for me professionally”.
