Loughborough University has secured an incredible 42nd consecutive British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) title after amassing a record number of points in the competition.

The Women's Basketball 1's contributed to Loughborough's final total score with their outstanding victory.

Loughborough University has secured an incredible 42nd consecutive British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) title after amassing a record number of points in the competition.

Loughborough’s final total of 9,311.5 is a sector-leading score and eclipses last year’s result of 7999.1 points – another record that was held by the University.

Throughout another campaign of sporting brilliance, Loughborough teams were victorious in women’s basketball, men’s badminton, women’s football, and men’s tennis, among others. Teams from the University were also crowned champions in women’s cricket, men’s hockey, and more.

Speaking following the annual BUCS Annual Awards Dinner, Richard Wheater, Performance and Development Director, Loughborough University, said: “This is an incredible achievement by all involved across Loughborough Sport.

“To continue to perform at such a high level, year-on-year, is an exceptional undertaking. Most especially the athletes – and of course all the coaches, practitioners, volunteers, and the many others involved – deserve immense credit.

“As a university, we’re incredibly proud of our BUCS record and we’ll all enjoy this moment before looking forward to the new campaign.”

Since 2016, Loughborough has broken the 6,000, 7,000, 8,000, and 9,000 points total. 

BUCS oversees Higher Education sport in the UK and supports and promotes the lifestyle and educational benefits of participating in sport.

Each year it delivers more than 50 sports to 170 universities across a varied programme of over 6,000 teams and individual competitors.
