Professor Cook, a leading expert in building performance analysis and indoor air quality, is currently acting Dean of the School. 

His research specialises in low energy building design and ventilation, and for more than 25 years he has worked with multi-disciplinary teams on the design and performance monitoring of some of the world’s most innovative low energy buildings. 

Professor Cook currently leads the government funded AIRBODS (Airborne Infection Reduction through Building Operation and Design for SARS-CoV-2) project, which helped get large-scale events back up and running after the Covid-19 lockdown. 

The findings of the study, which will provide building ventilation advice for reducing the spread of all airborne illnesses, are due to be released later this year. 

Speaking about his appointment, Professor Cook said: “It is an honour for me to be offered the opportunity to lead such an exciting, integrated School and I look forward to working with staff and students to address the great global challenges facing our built environment.”

Loughborough’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nick Jennings, added: “We are delighted to appoint Professor Cook as Dean of the School of Architecture, Building and Civil Engineering. He has clearly demonstrated his ability to lead and guide the School during his time as Acting Dean, and will continue to ensure its ongoing success, as well as playing a key role in the University strategy, especially around our Sustainability agenda.”
