Professor Skinner to speak at key international event

Loughborough University London’s Professor James Skinner has been invited to speak at the Inaugural Sports Diplomacy Dialogue in Australia.

Held in-person at The Gabba, Brisbane, Prof Skinner (Director of the Institute for Sport Business) will form part of a panel discussion titled ‘Sports Technology Diplomacy between the UK and Australia’.

The one-day event includes a series of talks, discussions, and networking opportunities as leaders from the diplomatic, sports, trade, and academic sectors, provide the first systemic review of the role sport plays in a diplomatic relationship.

Prof Skinners’ session focuses specifically on the strategic use of sports innovation and technology in diplomacy and will offer key learnings on how the UK and Australia can better leverage their strengths in this sector.

Other panellists include Jo Freeman, UK Consul General Qld and NT, and Director of the Department of Trade and Industry, Australia and New Zealand, and Laurie Malone, Founder and CEO of VALD Human Measurement Technologies.

Prof Skinner said: “The sportstech sector is becoming central to building diplomatic relations to leverage and build better trade relations more broadly for the UK and Australia. This forum provides a great platform to explore how strategies to enhance these possibilities in the sport industry.”
