Birmingham 2022 Queen’s Baton Relay: One week to go!

It’s just one week to go until the University welcomes the Birmingham 2022 Queen’s Baton Relay to campus.

The Baton is travelling the length and breadth of England, before culminating at the Opening Ceremony for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games on 28 July.

To mark its arrival on campus on Monday 11 July, the University is hosting a series of celebratory events, including a Festival of Sport.

Students, staff, campus partners, alumni, and members of the local community are all invited to line the Baton route and join in the fun at the festival. There will be live music, interactive games, and food stalls selling dishes from across the Commonwealth.

The Festival of Sport will run from 12 noon until 3pm, with the Baton due to arrive around 1pm. Further details about the route and timings can be found on the University's dedicated Birmingham 2022 Queen’s Baton Relay webpage.

The Baton is due to leave campus around 1.45pm. It will restart the next leg of its Loughborough tour from Queen’s Park, heading into Loughborough town centre where Charnwood Borough Council will be holding a celebratory event.

The 2022 Commonwealth Games will be held from 28 July until 8 August and it is hoped that around 100 Loughborough-linked athletes will compete for their respective nations in Birmingham.
