Loughborough student Truman wins England silver medal
Loughborough University student Joe Truman earned Team England a silver medal in the cycling Men’s Team Sprint at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games.
The Sport and Exercise Science student starred as the host nation took second place behind a rampant Australia team at Lee Valley VeloPark.
Roared on by a raucous crowd, Truman, alongside teammates Ryan Owens and Hamish Turnbull, powered through to record a time of 43.372 to claim the silver medal.
Following the race, Truman said: “This makes it all worth it… it makes us hungry too because we want to be on that top step in two years’ time. For sure the Aussies are going to be one of the teams to beat so hopefully this is the first step in that journey.
“[I’ve] goosebumps all day with this crowd, it’s been a while since we had a crowd like this. It was amazing for the start line, even for the qualifiers this morning, it was buzzing.”
Truman’s medal is Loughborough’s second of the Games, following Alex Yee’s stunning gold medal earlier in the day in triathlon.
