Loughborough academic wins prestigious National Teaching Fellowship

Dr Hilary McDermott, a Senior University Teacher in Psychology, has been awarded a prestigious National Teaching Fellowship by Advance HE.

The National Teaching Fellowship Scheme (NTFS) celebrates and recognises individuals who have made an outstanding impact on student outcomes and the teaching profession in higher education.

Dr McDermott, from the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences, is an acclaimed teaching practitioner within Psychology and is recognised as an innovative educator. She provides leadership and mentoring to academic staff and as Programme Lead for Psychology, she helps support over 1,000 students.

Speaking about her award, Loughborough’s Pro Vice-Chancellor for Education and Student Experience, Professor Rachel Thomson, said: “Dr McDermott is an inspiration to many, and it is fantastic to see her contribution to higher education recognised by this national award. I am also very grateful to her for the support she provides for our students.”

Dr McDermott added: “I am honoured to become a National Teaching Fellow. I feel lucky to be able to do what I love doing every day and I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to my journey over the years”
