In-form Hansson wins hat-trick of medals in Berlin

Loughborough swimmer Louise Hansson produced an outstanding performance at this weekend’s FINA World Cup in Berlin to bring home a trio of medals.

The Sweden international took a stunning gold – with a new lifetime best – in the women’s 100m backstroke final to blow away a competitive field.

It was a brilliantly executed race from Hansson as she finished ahead of Canada duo Maggie MacNeil (56.16) and Kylie Masse (56.31) by hitting the wall in 56.03 seconds.

Hansson came into the race in fine form after also winning silver in the women’s 100m individual medley with a time of 58.33 seconds – just behind Israel’s Anatasia Gorbenko (57.90).

Earlier in the day, the 24-year-old had taken fourth in the women’s 50m backstroke final with a new personal best and Swedish National Record (26.07).

Hansson, who performed at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, capped off a wonderful weekend by winning another silver in the women’s 100m butterfly on the final day of action. Competing in another tough field, she held on for another podium finish with a time of 55.49.
