“Exploring the Bright and Dark Sides of Sport” – collaborative Loughborough event coming soon

Colleagues from Loughborough University have teamed up with Ghent University and State University of New York College at Cortland to deliver a thematic event that explores the bright and dark sides of sport.

Taking place on Thursday, October 14th from 12 noon – 4:30 pm at the 2021 online European Association for Sport Management EASM conference, the event will bring together keynote speakers from around the world as well as providing a platform for panel discussions on sports law and match-fixing in sport.

Additionally, parallel sessions will take place in which new and innovative research on such topics as corruption and fraud, CSR, ambush marketing, good governance, social capital, and sustainability will be presented.

Dr Argyro Elisavet Manoli, Senior Lecturer in Sports Marketing & Communications in the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences, explained:

“With questions around sport’s role in today’s society and business world intensifying, our event aims to offer a thorough and more holistic exploration of sport, while shedding light not only on its dark side, such as the increasingly discussed corruption and lack of integrity within it, but also on its bright side that involves its role and potential within the wider societal and business ecosystem in which it operates.”
