Double medal delight for Loughborough’s Vazaios

Loughborough swimmer Andreas Vazaios completed a stunning weekend at the European Short Course Championships in Russia, winning gold and silver across two events.

The University postgraduate Sports and Exercise Psychology student defended his 200m Individual Medley title to take gold, hitting the wall in a brilliant time of 1:51.70.

Vazaios looked in fine form throughout the race, producing a rapid middle 100m, to win by three-quarters of a second.

Later in the weekend, he hit the podium again, this time winning silver in the men’s 100m Individual Medley. The 27-year-old started strongly but was eventually edged out (51.72 seconds) by Italy’s Macro Orsi who took gold in 50.95 seconds.
