Institute of Advanced Studies (IAS) launches Sound Summit online

The second IAS Sound Theme Summit: An Artistic Exploration and Design Conversation has been launched online after postponing the event due to the COVID-19 situation.

The mission of the IAS is to foster dynamic and innovative international research collaborations. In keeping with this, they have supported colleagues and worked with IAS Visiting Fellows for Sound to develop a virtual event on their website.

Professor Hua Dong, School of Design and Creative Arts at Loughborough University, Professor Wolfgang Wagenhäuser, University of Music, Trossingen and Dr Yinan Zhang, The Sound Lab, Tongji University have worked together to create videos that celebrate sound, design and research conversations across disciplines and distances.

Professor Marsha Meskimmon, Director of IAS said: “With social interaction at the heart of collaboration, the launch of the IAS Virtual Sound Summit 2 demonstrates just a few of the possibilities we have to maintain the vibrancy of our international research partnerships now and into a very different future. We invite everyone to tune in and enjoy the event.”

Professor Hua Dong added: “Sound Theme Summit 2 will definitely bring something positive to us: music, art and design. Our IAS Sound Fellows, Sound Theme team and the IAS have worked very hard to make this virtual launch happen. I would like to thank them, and I hope you will enjoy the multi-sensory experience.”

You can also listen to recordings from Sound Summit 1, held in October 2019.
