University signs agreement that will bring master’s and PhD students from Kazakhstan to Loughborough

The University's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Robert Allison, has signed an agreement that will enable high-performing students from Kazakhstan to study at Loughborough University.

The International Office and the Doctoral College have been liaising with colleagues from the Bolashak programme, a Kazakh-government funded scholarship programme, for the past few months.

They have been working together on an agreement that enables taught master’s and PhD students to study at the University’s two campuses in the East Midlands and London.

Professor Allison signed the agreement in Kazakhstan at the start of the month; the signing comes shortly after the Kazakh Ambassador to the UK, His Excellency Erlan Idrissov, visited Loughborough University.

During the Ambassador’s visit to Loughborough, he met with the Vice-Chancellor, current Loughborough Kazakh students, and visited the Sports Technology Institute and the research facilities of the School of Architecture, Building and Civil Engineering.

Commenting on the agreement, Professor Allison said: “I am delighted that we have deepened our relationship with Kazakhstan in this way. I am proud of the international student body at Loughborough. Signing the Bolashak Agreement with the Government of Kazakhstan will provide opportunities to further strengthen an important element of the Loughborough community.”
