Textiles student's talent is recognised twice at national exhibition

Final-year Textiles student Charlotte Munson has rounded off her time at Loughborough by winning both the Kingfisher Design Talent Award and the Turner Bianca Associates Prize at the London-based exhibition New Designers.

Charlotte, who followed the Printed Textiles pathway, displayed her Scatter of Seasons collection and was chosen out of hundreds of graduating exhibitors.

She has won a six-month paid internship with the Kingfisher Design Team, based in Southampton, and a four-week paid internship with Turner Bianca at their studio in Greater Manchester.

The Talent Award is awarded to a design that “reflects a deep visual understanding of consumer needs” while the Turner Bianca Prize is presented to a designer who demonstrates “a special talent in painting and drawing, creative and innovative design ideas and a good feel for colour”.

As well as the awards presented to exhibitors, New Designers is an opportunity to showcase work to industry buyers and this year, a number of finalists sold their work.

You can view samples of work by Charlotte and this year's Textiles finalists who showcased their work at the Loughborough University Arts Degree Show last month here.
