student drawing of Hazlerigg Building used for 2018 University Christmas card

Student’s drawing is used for this year’s University Christmas card

The University’s annual Christmas card sent to alumni, friends and supporters of the University features a drawing from a Loughborough student this year.

Jin Wu is currently studying Design Innovation at the University, and her drawing of the Hazlerigg Building on campus was loved by staff members, consequently being chosen to feature on the front cover of the festive card.

Jin has been drawing for over eight years after being inspired by her grandfather’s artistic flair and skillset. She has been trained professionally in the arts and particularly enjoys painting, sketching and drawing portraits.

She also has an interest in architecture, which is why she likes to sketch and paint many of the buildings on the Loughborough campus.

When asked how she feels to have her work recognised by the University, she said: “I feel very honoured and happy to have such an opportunity. My plan is to draw a set of illustrations about Loughborough and make postcards for friends.”

Talking about what art means to her, she added: “My inspiration for art comes from life, but art is higher than life. Reading ten thousand books is like travelling ten thousand miles. The more you see, the more ideas you accumulate.”

On behalf of the University, we wish all of our students, staff, alumni and friends of the University a Merry Christmas.
