Internationally acclaimed professor joins Loughborough University London

Loughborough University London has appointed Professor Tony Edwards as Director of its new Institute for International Management.

Professor Edwards has joined the University from King's College London, where he was Head of the School of Management and Business. His research centres on international and comparative employment relations, with a focus on multinational companies.

Some of his most recent high profile research projects include the largest and most comprehensive survey of employment policy and practice among MNCs in the UK; an analysis of the roles of individuals in the international integration of MNCs; and an investigation into the human resource consequences of international mergers and acquisitions.

Professor Edwards has a track record of attracting high-profile research grants from the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), the European Union and its agencies and from a range of practitioner bodies such as the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and the Institute of Small Business and Entrepreneurship. He has worked with a range of international organisations during the last two decades, and is currently working with a consortium of firms on the issue of how ‘globalizing actors’ create and disseminate norms across borders.

Professor Edwards is a member of the editorial board for the Industrial and Labor Relations Review and Human Resource Management Journal, and a member of the international advisory board of the British Journal of Industrial Relations.

He was a Visiting Fellow at the Industrial and Labor Relations School at Cornell University between 2001 and 2008, and is currently an Associate Fellow at the Interuniversity Research Centre on Globalization and Work at the University of Montreal and the Industrial Relations Research Unit at Warwick University.

Speaking about his appointment, Professor Edwards said: “I am excited about the prospects for our new Institute. It will be a major centre for research and teaching in the international management field, and will form partnerships with leading universities in other countries and with a range of companies in and around London.”

Professor Mike Caine, Dean of Loughborough University London added: “The appointment of Professor Edwards marks the next phase in our mission to grow a research-led, multi-disciplinary postgraduate campus on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, thereby contributing to the local community and enhancing Loughborough’s global reach.”

Professor Stewart Robinson, Dean of Loughborough University’s School of Business and Economics, said: “The School is delighted to welcome Professor Edwards to the University. His expertise in international management and human resources management complement and extend our core research and teaching strengths in these important fields.”
